Get Involved!

There are plenty of opportunities to get involved in CMAA right here in New England. Contact a Officer or Director, email a Committee Chair, or just attend some of the events. It is completely up to you where you offer your time and talent.

We are actively looking for new people on our committees.  Take a look at the descriptions below and contact the committee chair if you are interested in finding out more!

Awards

The Awards Committee is the driving force behind the Chapter’s Annual Awards program held each spring in April.  Awards are presented to individuals and projects at the program and the Keynote Speaker presents during lunch.

Committee responsibilities include securing the venue, soliciting applications from project teams, evaluating and selecting award recipients, hosting the program, and handling all day-of activities.

This committee conducts most of its planning during the winter and spring months with regular conference calls and in-person meetings as the event approaches.

Certification

The Certification Committee works to promote the CCM certification in the New England Chapter as well as organizes the annual Professional Construction Management course usually held each spring.  The PCM course is a three day course that helps to prepare prospective CCMs for the CCM exam.

Committee responsibilities include lining up the venue for the PCM course, securing course instructors and scheduling the three day course, promote the CCM certifications to local firms and owner organizations, and ultimately increase the number of CCMs here in the New England Chapter

This committee communicates as necessary throughout the year and conducts most of its planning for the PCM course in the spring leading up to the event.

CODE

The CODE Committee is the newest committee here in New England and is setting the standard across all the CMAA regional chapters and even CMAA National.  CODE (Creating Opportunities for Diversity and Equality) is all about connecting with disadvantaged businesses in the New England region.

Committee responsibilities include discussing diversity and equality, opening up dialogues with other industry organizations, and reaching out to disadvantaged businesses.

This committee has regular conference calls to continue the movement forward.

Communications

The Communication Committee connects the chapter with it members ensuring that all events, initiatives, and opportunities are shared to maximize attendance and the success of said events, initiatives, and opportunities.  Communication tools include the chapter’s brand new website, weekly publications, and special emails.

Committee responsibilities include maintaining the chapter website, drafting and sending out the weekly email notifications, and ensuring communication between all the committees in the New England Chapter.

This committee has quarterly ‘working’ sessions to update the website as well as conference calls to ensure the website and the weekly notifications contain all the important, up-to-date information.

Government Affairs

The Government Affairs Committee works to educate the CMAA New England membership of the happenings on Beacon Hill and other state legislations in the New England region.  Alerts and articles are sent out the membership to help ensure the members are aware of recent changes, pending bills, and the affects either have on the construction industry here in the New England.

Committee responsibilities include tracking current legislation in front of the lawmakers and informing the CMAA membership of the affects said legislation could have.

This committee communications as necessary throughout the year as new legislation is proposed, vote on, and approved.

Scholarships

The Scholarship Committee presents deserving students with scholarships to put forth toward their schooling in the study of Construction Management.  Students from five area colleges are invited to submit applications including Wentworth, Northeastern, Roger Williams, Worcester Poly Tech, and Southern Maine.  The students are honored at both the Annual Awards Program and the Annual Golf Outing.

Committee responsibilities include finalizing the application form, soliciting applications from students, reviewing applications, and awarding scholarships to deserving candidates.

This committees communicates frequently leading up the Annual Awards Program and while reviewing and deliberating the applications.
