Welcome to CMAA New England Chapter

The CMAA New England Chapter was formed in 1991 by a small but industrious group of professionals devoted to construction in a management role.  The Chapter started off slowly but can now boast close to 510 members and 60 Certified Construction Managers.  With the addition of Owner Members such as the Massachusetts Port Authority, the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority and some very large private firms, membership has grown over 20% per year. Recently, MassDOT has also expressed an interest in becoming a member and NE Chapter Board members are in discussions with them.  This upsurge is an indication of the rising importance of construction management within our industry, and certainly of the value of the CCM certification.

At the national level, the New England Chapter was most recently awarded the Chapter of the Year in 2014 for medium size chapters. It has also generated two national CMAA presidents, a national Person of the Year award recipient, and a national Owner Member of the Year.

Locally, the New England Chapter Board is comprised of 18 members, consisting of 5 Officers and 13 Directors.  All Board Members are volunteers who devote many hours to enhancing the Chapter’s activities. Many serve as Chairs and Vice Chairs on various committees ranging from Advisory/Governance to Young Members.

The Chapter offers numerous activities to the membership, some of which are:

  • Monthly Breakfast Programs on a variety of topics
  • Owners’ Forum Luncheon (4-5 Public & Private Owners with focus on their CIPs’)
  • Annual Project Awards (applications, evaluations, and Awards ceremony)
  • Scholarships for CM Students from 5 area colleges/universities
  • Professional Certification Classes
  • Construction Legislation Tracking & Alerts
  • Seasonal Newsletters
  • Young Member Committee (project site visits and socials)
  • Annual Golf Outing for CM Student Scholarships

We urge members to consider volunteering some of their time to an activity or committee that interests them which, if they are interested, may eventually lead to becoming a Board member (please refer to our Committee tab for selections and contacts).  Please keep in mind that the future endeavors of the Chapter, and CMAA, are dependent on the managed succession of tasks and services.
